Why does Excel mangle my CSV when I just open it?
Opening a CSV directly lets Excel guess at each column, which is what turns product codes into dates and drops leading zeros. Converting the file first writes a real .xlsx with the values intact, so nothing is reinterpreted.
What happens to a workbook with several sheets?
CSV is a single-table format, so converting to CSV exports the first sheet. Export the others separately if you need them.
